Arshad Nadeem qualified for the Olympic javelin throw final with an excellent first try of 86.59 meters on Tuesday afternoon at the Stade de France.
Arshad joined India’s Neeraj Chopra, who had the best throw of the qualifier with 89.34 meters, as the second thrower from Group B to automatically qualify for the final.
Grenada’s Peter Anderson also qualified automatically by throwing 88.63 meters on his first attempt.
Athletes who threw 84 meters or over qualify automatically, and the 12 best throwers go to the finals.
Additionally, Pakistan’s white-ball captain, Babar Azam, has shown his support for Arshad Nadeem.
In a video greeting, Babar wished Arshad success in the final and expressed optimism that he would end Pakistan’s Olympic medal drought.
“I wish him good luck.” I ask that everyone support him and pray that he wins the final. “Chak De Phatte, Arshad Nadeem,” he said.
Meanwhile, Arshad has stated his intention to make the nation proud.
“I want to make Pakistan proud in the Olympic Games,” Arshad told a local news outlet.
“I am optimistic about delivering a good result in the final,” he stated, thanking fans for their support.
Nadeem, who won silver at the 2023 World Championship and gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, is Pakistan’s best hope for a medal.
The country last won an Olympic medal in 1992, with a bronze in field hockey.
