Sweden Concludes Its Criminal Investigation Into The Removal Of A Dutch Musician From The Eurovision Contest.
COPENHAGEN– Swedish prosecutors announced on Monday that they had completed an investigation into Dutch singer Joost Klein, who was kicked out of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in May after allegedly making threats against a female member of the production crew.
Klein, 26, sang the whimsical song “Europapa” and was initially tipped to win the annual contest, which was hosted this year in the Swedish city of Malmö.
“The inquiry has determined that the male made a movement that struck the woman’s film camera. According to Sweden’s Prosecution Authority, the incident occurred quickly and was seen differently by witnesses.
“Today I have closed the investigation because I cannot prove that the act was capable of causing serious fear or that the man had any such intention,” senior prosecutor Fredrik Jonsson said in a statement.
The event’s organiser, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and Dutch station AVROTROS did not immediately react to demands for comment.
Nemo, a Swiss rapper and vocalist, won this year’s tournament with the song “The Code,” which combines drum-and-bass, opera, rap, and rock.
