Monalisa, Shalin Bhanot, and many more actors have responded to the audience’s attitudes on spooky programs.
Supernatural TV series continue to captivate fans throughout the world, even as the lines between fact and imagination blur. However, several supernatural serials have been mocked on social media for their poor VFX and lack of rationale. With Nia Sharma’s latest Suhagan Chudail, the actor claims that there is a large audience out there who watch such shows. We spoke with various performers from supernatural TV shows to learn about their opinions and whether people still seek the magic and escapism that these shows provide.
1) Nia Sharma
The 33-year-old actor, whose spooky drama Suhagan Chudail recently premiered, discusses the genre, saying, “I am not going to debate regressive versus progressive stuff on TV. I have done a lot of work on television. I know that the creators went out of their way to provide progressive content, which did not work well for TV and was rejected by the audience. TRPs have always been important in television, and supernatural shows are popular among audiences, therefore they want to watch them.
They enjoy watching it, which is why a show like Naagin has been running for seven seasons. Rahi baat trolling ki, I don’t think aaj kal koi aisa content bana hai jo troll nahi ho.”

2) Arjun Bijlani
Actor Arjun Bijlani also appeared in the spooky drama Naagin. The 41-year-old actor is solely concerned with his performance and regards trolling as unavoidable. “As actors, it is our job to act. Audience reactions might vary, and trolling is a part of an actor’s life. I do not react or overreact to trolls unless it is important to express my opinion. Supernatural shows have always had, and will continue to have, an audience. It still receives TRP. When certain shows achieve high TRPs, the producers will continue to broadcast them. “I am always open to supernatural shows as long as it is a title role,” he says.

3. Adaa Khan
Adaa Khan, who played Sitara and Naagin in Vish Ya Amrit, believes that consumers still prefer mystical TV dramas. “I’m not bothered by social media trolling concerning the show’s visual effects and logic. It’s a popular television show. Audiences enjoy it, which explains why there have been so many spooky shows. Fantasy television series continue to be popular, which is why producers create them and broadcasters air them. Aside from spooky shows, I am open to any role that pushes me as an actor. “I’d like to do a historical show.”
4) Monalisa
Actor Monalisa defends the VFX in her TV show Nazar, stating, “The VFX in Nazar was outstanding, and people connected with us. I used to receive so many notes from fans and so much love for playing the terrible role of a Daayan. This only occurred because the audience connected with us. People were watching it as late as 11 p.m. I believe that following our show, many films adapted the daayan’s braid and disarrayed foot theme. Hum raakshas aur daayan ki kahani bachpan se sunte aaye hain, toh hum vohi as actors depict karahe hain.”
5. Mohit Malhotra
Actor Mohit Malhotra, who was also seen in the popular supernatural drama Naagin 5, disagrees that the VFX are illogical in such TV shows. He says, “If it was illogical, people would not be watching it and the channel would not be paying the producers to make it. If it wasn’t being loved and accepted around the country, then the producer wouldn’t be making the show. There’s an audience that likes that kind of content. While, I think trolling is an overreaction. People overreact in social media comments to gain attention. I’ve never been worried by these jerks. If the TRP is high, it is beneficial to both the producers and the actors. Maybe some people have outgrown fantasy entertainment, but the bulk of people still enjoy and watch it.”

6. Shalini Bhanot
Shalin Bhanot has also performed important roles in two spooky series, Bekaboo and Naagin. “Despite the fact that both of these shows are performing so well, I do not believe the audience has outgrown fantasy dramas or supernatural TV shows.
Personally, I believe that if done effectively, any genre can work. It makes little difference if the substance is fascinating and the audience enjoys it, whether it is a fantasy play or a social drama. In fact, I don’t believe there is any trolling about my show; it is doing quite well. Bekaboo’s visual effects are stunning and rank among the best on Indian television. “I don’t believe there is any specific trolling happening around supernatural TV shows,” the 40-year-old said.
