In a daring step, the South Korean military started anti-Pyongyang propaganda broadcasts, the first since June 9.
The decision is a direct response to North Korea’s provocative launch of trash-filled balloons into the South, according to the country’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Yonhap News, based in Seoul, claimed that the anti-Pyongyang broadcasts ran from Thursday night to early Friday.
This marks the first time Seoul has blasted anti-Pyongyang propaganda near the border since June 9.
Since late May, North Korea has launched over 2,000 trash-carrying balloons in reaction to anti-Pyongyang leaflets distributed by North Korean defectors and activists in South Korea.
Pyongyang has also complained about Seoul’s similar balloon launches into the North, saying that South Korea will face “gruesome” consequences for such activities.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump stated that he “got along with” Kim Jong Un while the Republican presidential candidate for the 2024 elections was in government until 2020.
“We stopped North Korea’s missile launches. Now, North Korea is acting up again, but when we go back, I get along with him,” Trump remarked when accepting the Republican nomination on Thursday, US time.
Trump stated that Kim would “like to see me back too.”
“I think he misses me,” he remarked. He continued: “It’s nice to get along with somebody who has a lot of nuclear weapons.”
