Snoop's Side Quests: Beyond the Olympics, the Rapper Has Demonstrated Flexibility From Cooking to Wrestling.
Los Angeles— Although he is best known for his decades-long rap career and being everyone’s “uncle,” Snoop Dogg has demonstrated that his brilliance extends beyond his work in the recording studio.
That’s been clear during the last two weeks, as Snoop became a breakout sensation of the Paris Olympics, carrying the torch, working out with the US Olympic weightlifting team, and freestyling to horses trotting during the dressage competition.
He also performed at the closing ceremony, alongside Dr. Dre, to hand over the games to their 2028 host city, Los Angeles.
It’s the latest in a string of “side quests” (extra adventures outside of music) by the hip-hop legend, ranging from co-hosting a cooking show with Martha Stewart to unexpectedly stepping in during a Wrestlemania match, that have turned him into a social media sensation and continue to amaze fans with his versatility.
Snoop Dogg’s visit to Paris for the 2024 Olympics raised the question of if there is anything he cannot do.
Before the Games began, he participated in the United States Olympic trials, where he ran the 200-meter dash in 34.44 seconds and learned how to pole vault.
He tested his swimming abilities by joining Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, for a special swimming session as part of NBC’s broadcast. He also tried fencing and weightlifting, and he even has his own Olympic pin, which depicts him blowing clouds of smoke to make Olympic rings.
One of the artist’s most important roles at the Games was to carry the Olympic torch. He carried the well-known emblem around Saint-Denis, laughing and blowing kisses to crowds screaming his name.
Snoop went viral in June for his unique commentary during the Reds’ game against the Brewers.
After being on the field to deliver the game’s opening pitch, the hip-hop star didn’t hesitate to show off his rap skills, spitting rhymes on the spot throughout numerous plays. “Give him the single. He enjoys socializing, and his favorite jingle is the S to the N double O, no no,” he stated during the broadcast as Brewers catcher Gary Sánchez reached first base.
Snoop is no stranger to the sports commentator profession. In 2023, he co-hosted a segment during WrestleMania with wrestler Mike “The Miz” Mizanin.
Mizanin battled Shane McMahon in a match that saw McMahon break his quad before the show concluded.
To no one’s surprise, the Doggfather intervened.
Snoop concluded the battle with two punches and won by crushing The Miz with The Rock’s signature maneuver, the People’s Elbow.
Consider pulling up to a drive-thru window and having Snoop Dogg deliver your order.
This happened to hundreds of lucky fans when he went to a “Raising Cane’s” restaurant in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 2021.
The collaboration was intended to promote the franchise’s Drive-Thru Comedy Series and Snoop Dogg’s album, “Snoop Dogg Presents Algorithm.”.
He handed out CDs while posing for photos and cracking jokes with consumers.
He was also named Employee of the Month in 2019 while working at a Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through in Los Angeles to promote their plant-based menu and Beyond Sausage Sandwich.
In 2016, the rapper co-hosted an Emmy-nominated cooking show with Martha Stewart, his best friend. In “Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Party Challenge,” the duo competed in a variety of culinary challenges alongside celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Usher.
The show included recipes for unique cuisine and provided a closer look at Stewart and Snoop’s unusual bond.
The pair reunited at the Paris Olympics for the dressage competition. Stewart praised Snoop’s attire as they reflected on how their relationship has evolved over the years.
Snoop’s fun will not stop with the Olympics. He will coach on NBC’s “The Voice” alongside Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, and Michael Bublé.
