ISLAMABAD -The Supreme Court has ordered that an advertisement be issued to summon Qasim Suri in the election irregularities case.
The Supreme Court heard an appeal against the de-seating of former National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri.
Suri failed to appear in court again, despite being summoned.
The court ordered that an advertisement be issued to summon Suri and that the notice be posted outside Suri’s home. Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa stated that, according to the record, Suri’s brother Bilal refused to receive the notice.
“Suri is deliberately not appearing before the Supreme Court. The former deputy speaker’s refusal to receive the notice is unfortunate, according to the CJP.
The chief justice told Suri’s lawyer, Naeem Bukhari, “Your client is very active on media and social media.” Naeem Bukhari responded, “I don’t watch TV.”
The chief justice said, “You are a TV personality and do not watch television. “Are you familiar with X or Twitter?” the CJP inquired. Bukhari responded, “I do not use social media nor do I know how to use it.”
The chief justice inquired, “Why do you consider yourself old? Stay young and up to date.” Bukhari replied that he was old now. Justice Irfan Saadat commented, “In a TV show, you said your friends don’t let you grow old.”
Bukhari informed the court that he had no contact with Qasim Suri. The chief justice stated in his remarks that the next hearing will be held in July, and the date will be specified in the court order. Later, the court postponed the hearing until next month.
