LAHORE– The Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) organized an event to honor journalists who faced hardships such as torture, detention, and jail during the dictatorship of former dictator Zia-ul-Haq.
The Lahore Press Club hosted the event on Monday.
Journalists held placards and banners and lit candles to show solidarity with the journalists who were tortured for criticizing the then-government.
Addressing the crowd, PUJ President Zahid Rafiq Bhatti declared May 13th to be the worst day in history. They said that on May 13, Zia-ul-Haq’s dictatorship mercilessly suppressed journalists like Nasir Zaidi, Iqbal Jaffri, Masood Allah Khan, and others.
