PTI to challenge defamation bill in court

LAHORE – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said on Tuesday that it would file a legal challenge to the controversial defamation bill enacted by the Punjab Assembly.

Speaking to reporters outside an anti-terrorism court, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan said the government planned to impose a dark legislation.

Ayub stated, “According to the Constitution, freedom of expression cannot be restricted. We will oppose this law in both national and provincial parliament.”

He said that anyone who mentioned Ayub Khan’s martial regime should ask him what Nawaz Sharif had done. Ayub claimed Babar Awan revealed the entire law in court.

He expressed gratitude to the court that gave justice. “I cannot travel throughout Pakistan in one day. “These are all false cases,” he explained.

Babar Awan: The law designed to jail journalists will not function.

Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Babar Awan
stated that the chief minister and law minister were in contempt of court.

“The measure enacted to jail journalists will not function. We will go to court to challenge this statute.” He stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was standing with journalists.

The former law minister stated, “The Dubai Leaks case should be opened immediately.” The judge is obligated to preserve people’s rights.

It should be remembered that the Punjab Assembly passed the Defamation Bill 2024 quickly on Monday. The opposition referred to the bill as “black law” and tore up copies in protest.

Journalists also staged a walkout from the press gallery to oppose the controversial law before the assembly, calling for nationwide rallies.
