ISLAMABAD –On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the killing of Palestinian group Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and asked that the Zionist state’s leadership be punished for war crimes.
The prime minister was speaking to the National Assembly after the house offered Fateha for Haniyeh, who was slain on Wednesday in Iran.
Misbahuddin led the prayer at the request of the National Assembly Speaker, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
“The death of a Hamas leader is being mourned across Pakistan today,” said Premier Shehbaz, adding that Pakistan would continue to assist the Palestinians.
He informed the legislators that arrangements will be made to transport the injured Palestinians to Pakistan for treatment. Palestinian students would be admitted to medical institutes in Pakistan, he said.
He condemned Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination as a major setback to peace efforts and voiced Pakistani support with the bereaved family and Palestinians.
The Israeli force has turned Gaza into an abattoir, slaughtering innocent children, women, and men, according to the prime minister.
He urged the international community to ensure the delivery of aid to Palestinians.
“I am grateful to all the members, those sitting on opposition benches and the coalition partners for adopting the resolution against Israeli atrocities on Palestinians,” Shehbaz, the premier, said.
When Prime Minister Shehbaz entered the Parliament, PTI members yelled slogans. They stopped chanting when Law Minister Nazir Tarar announced that the session would be dedicated to discussing the martyrdom of a Palestinian leader.
NA Adopts Resolution
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar proposed a resolution commemorating Ismail Haniyeh’s martyrdom. The resolution decried the massacre of over 40,000 Palestinians by Israeli forces and stated that Pakistan rejects all forms of terrorism.
The House expresses its solidarity with the Palestinian brothers, condolences the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, and demands for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, the resolution stated.
The resolution was later adopted unanimously by the house.
Barrister, Gohar Ali Khan
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the PTI Chairman, stated that thousands of Palestinians have been martyred. Passing a resolution will not prevent Israel from committing atrocities. “We have to analyse whether Israel is strong or the Muslim world is weak?”
He stated that he believes the Muslim world is weak. Non-Muslim countries challenged Israel in the International Court of Justice, however the Muslim Ummah did not.
Barrister Gohar emphasized the importance of strengthening the OIC and criticized the incumbent government for failing to convene the organization.
The PTI leader stated that the [Pakistani] country is not united. “How can you make a bloc against Israel when there’s no unity in your ranks?”
He accused the current government of grave human rights breaches. He stated that a request was made for a production order for PTI employee Haji Imtiaz. Speaker Ayaz stated that he was not in police custody.
Barrister Gohar said that the speaker is the caretaker of the house. It is your responsibility to ensure Haji Imtiaz’s attendance at the house. “It is your duty to ensure end to enforced disappearances.”
