ISLAMABAD (APP) Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan informed the National Assembly on Friday that the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) judgment, which prohibits MNAs from taking oaths on reserved seats, explicitly applies to lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Responding to Sunni Ittehad Council leader Omar Ayub and Gohar Ali Khan’s concerns over reserved seats in the National Assembly, he stated that the PHC directive for reserved seats did not apply to other provinces.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq stated that the house has received no notice or direction from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) or the court about the oath-taking of MNAs on reserved seats.
Omar Ayub raised concerns over the allocation of reserved seats to other parties, claiming that such actions were unlawful.
He insisted that his party deserved the reserved seats.
Gohar Ali Khan stated that his party had entered the Sunni Ittehad Council and deserved the seats allotted for women and minorities.
He further stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan has been approached about allocating seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council in the National Assembly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab assembly.
