ROME– Pakistan and Italy have agreed on a coordinated and effective action plan to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi met in Rome. Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, was also present at the meeting.
The two sides also agreed to collaborate against drug trafficking.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that steps have been taken at all levels to prevent illegal entry of Pakistanis into Italy and to combat drug trafficking. A zero-tolerance policy has been implemented against human trafficking and the drug mafia.
In his remarks, Chaudhry Salik Hussain stated that Italy can greatly benefit from Pakistan’s skilled workforce. He emphasized that the early completion of the Skilled Manpower Agreement will discourage illegal immigration.
The Italian Interior Minister stated that his country will cooperate with Pakistan on border security, as well as human and drug trafficking.
