Janhvi Kapoor wants to know why a part of social media was so astonished when she made a joke about Ambedkar and Gandhi a few months ago. Janhvi was speaking with Mashable in a new interview ahead of the premiere of her film Ulajh when she revealed that her PR staff wanted to cut that part of the discussion. She was concerned that the attention would be diverted from the picture she was promoting at the time, Mr and Mrs Mahi.(See also: Janhvi Kapoor’s opinions on Gandhi, Ambedkar, and casteism leave the internet’very impressed’. What Janhvi stated.
When the host brought up how the internet collectively gasped at her comment on Ambedkar and Gandhi, Janhvi responded, “Is it so hard to understand that a young female actor may have an opinion? I was shocked. I recall one of the comments being, ‘Ye toh PR trained hein (She is trained by PR).’ Until a day before the interview, I had mentioned in the chat, and after the interview, I looked at my public relations staff and I was like, Did I say anything wrong? They answered, ‘That may be picked up, but we will see to it!’
“My PR team started getting hyper.”
The actor further said, “The next day I started panicking because the film was just about to be released pata nahi kaun se angle se kaun kya bolne lagenge (I don’t know which angle will be picked up) I’m not sure whether that’s the appropriate thing. Then my PR staff became agitated, and they began making calls saying, “Hum wo hisse ko kaat sakte he please.” (Can we cut that out)?”They said no…” That’s what was so ironic: my staff was attempting to edit that out, and people assumed I was coached to say that.
Janhvi explained that she became interested in the subject when filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan told her about his past and the baggage he had to cope with. It all started with an interview for The Lallantop in May, when Janhvi was promoting Mr and Mrs Mahi, and she mentioned wanting to see a debate between Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar.
Fans will see Janhvi next in Ulajh as Suhana Bhatia, a young diplomat caught up in a web of intrigue and conspiracy. Sudhanshu Saria directed the film, which also stars Adil Hussain, Meiyang Chang, Gulshan Devaiah, Rajendra Gupta, and Jitendra Joshi. Ulajh opens in theaters on August 2.
