According to Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays the lead in the new movie, “Road House,” replicating the 1989 classic film directed by Patrick Swayze required honoring his legacy.
Gyllenhaal plays Dalton, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter who gets into problems when he starts working as a bouncer at a nightclub in the Florida Keys, in the 2024 adaptation.
“It held significance for me. “I wanted to carry through the character that he created,” Gyllenhaal remarked during the London premiere of the movie.
Gyllenhaal and Swayze, who died in 2009, collaborated on “Donnie Darko” nearly twenty years ago.
“Patrick was incredibly kind and encouraging to me when I first started my career. I truly loved him, so I brought some of the tattoos with me and we designed some in his honor.
Conor McGregor, the former UFC champion, makes his acting debut in the new film directed by Doug Liman.
During the UFC 285 event, which featured Jon Jones and Cyril Gane as the main attraction, some of Gyllenhaal’s fighting sequences were recorded in front of an actual crowd in the Octagon. The 43-year-old actor trained for the action sequences and stunts in the Dominican Republic film for around two months.
Jessica Williams plays the roadhouse owner Frankie in the movie, Daniela Melchior plays Ellie, the town doctor, and Billy Magnussen plays crime boss Ben Brandt.
“I hope you don’t view art as a competition and compare ours to the original. You just have to have fun,” Magnussen remarked.
March 21 marks the launch of “Road House” on Prime Video.
