Here in Islamabad, the eighth iteration of the Women International Film Festival (WIFF) got underway on Saturday.
Thirty-one short and feature films from various nations, including Britain, Iran, France, Germany, Ukraine, Spain, Lebanon, Egypt, Russia, Estonia, Poland, Japan, Mexico, Italy, Canada, Chile, Turkey, and Argentina, were exhibited over the two-day event.
Additionally, five films, titled “Hum Awaaz,” “Made with Love,” “Prolific Hustling,” “Woman of Courage,” and “10 more minutes,” were directed by Pakistani filmmakers.
Prominent filmmakers Mehreen Jabbar, Usman Mukhtar, and Marya Javed were on the jury.
With the help of the embassies of Spain, Germany, France, and Ukraine, the festival has begun.
WIFF is an initiative headquartered in Pakistan that aims to support and inspire young women and girls to use fiction, storytelling, and self-expression.
Madeeha Raza, the festival’s creator and director, spoke in-depth about the eight-year history of the project.
She talked about the festival’s organic and exponential growth and how it developed into a thriving platform for upcoming filmmakers.
