ISLAMABAD –Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reorganized the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) on Saturday, adding Deputy Premier Ishaq Dar to its cabinet committee in an effort to secure foreign investment and alleviate pressure on the country’s faltering economy.
Dar, who was previously appointed chairman of the Privatisation Committee and member of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) by the prime minister, would now be a member of the crucial SIFC.
Moreover, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Information Minister Atta Tarar have been appointed in the SIFC cabinet committee.
The current addition of three members brings the overall number of SIFC cabinet committee members to 15.
According to the SIFC’s operating procedures, the Chief of Army Staff and chief ministers are asked to attend meetings, which are chaired by the prime minister.
It should be recalled that Prime Minister Shehbaz created the SIFC cabinet committee on May 27.
