Increased Security For Prince Harry's Travel To New York Following An Earlier Incident
The security team assigned to Prince Harry for his forthcoming visit to New York will be strengthened in light of a recent incident that has prompted worries about safety.
This month, the 39-year-old Duke of Sussex is expected to visit New York for the Diana Award Event and to advance some of his charitable endeavors.
The precise dates of his visit are still unknown, although it falls during significant occasions like UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week, according to GB News.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) will have more security on this trip, which Harry is taking on his own without Meghan.
After a “reckless” incident in May 2023, when Harry, Meghan, and her mother were chased by paparazzi across the city after an event at the Ziegfeld Theatre, it was decided to step up security. The couple’s continued safety fears are reflected in the additional security measures, which are paid for by taxpayers.
“We found the following: reckless disregard of vehicle and traffic laws and persistently dangerous and unacceptable behavior on the part of the paparazzi during the night in question,” the NYP chief of intelligence wrote to the Met back in December.
The way the people drove their cars, scooters, and bicycles made the security team—which included an NYPD Lead Car—have to dodge on multiple times and take a detour to avoid getting hit by oncoming cars or stuck on side blocks.
“After consulting with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, we have determined that we have enough evidence to make two arrests for reckless endangerment.”
The Sussexes “were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” according to a spokeswoman for the family at the time.
That same week, Prince William’s Earthshot Prize is hosting an event in New York, but the future King has chosen not to attend in person.
Rather, he’ll probably record a video message for the Earthshot Innovation Summit, which happens to be held on September 24 at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
GB News was informed by royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams that there seems to be an intentional overlap between the two events.
Fitzwilliams stated: “I believe Harry planned this with timing in mind because he knew it would garner more attention.
“William has no plans to travel to New York for the Earthshot summit.”
