ISLAMABAD -A day after the Jamaat-e-Islami began its protest against inflation and excessive electricity prices, the government and JI agreed to conduct talks.
According to sources, the JI has agreed to form a three-member team for negotiations with the administration.
Meanwhile, the government formed a committee in this regard, which included Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Amir Muqam.
According to sources, the JI plans to continue its sit-in until its demands are met by the administration.
JI workers have begun to converge at Murree Road, Liaqat Bagh, where JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman will hold a news conference to outline the organization’s next steps.
The government gives an olive branch to JI.
On Friday, the government extended an olive branch to the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), which is staging sit-ins at various locations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in protest over high electricity prices.
Addressing a press conference alongside federal minister Amir Muqam, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar asked the JI to work with the government to get the country out of crisis.
“The JI was only allowed to organise its rally or sit-in at Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi but insistence on moving towards Islamabad is beyond understanding,” Tarar tweeted.
The minister stated that the government is willing to meet with JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and his team to listen to their concerns.
Tarar stated that the government has formed a three-member committee consisting of himself, Amir Muqam, and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry to negotiate with the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership.
Previously, after the Jamaat-e-Islami’s call for protests against high power rates, containers were positioned to obstruct roadways from the Red Zone and Rawalpindi to the capital. The metro bus service in Rawalpindi has also been interrupted, causing major inconvenience for commuters.
Key crossroads in the Red Zone, such as D Chowk, Nadra Chowk, and Sarina Chowk, have been shut with containers.
The JI is now organizing sit-ins on Murree Road in Rawalpindi, Zero Point in Islamabad, and Chungi No 26, with Hafiz Naeemur Rehman directing the sit-in at Zero Point in Islamabad.
