Friendship Day 2024: Huma Qureshi and Sonakshi Sinha are the ultimate best friends, having met at a party in 2017 and became inseparable.
Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi’s friendship is not the traditional story of instant chemistry. Sinha’s first meeting was at an after-party following an award ceremony in Singapore in 2017, and it was not quite friendship at first sight.
On Friendship Day today, Sinha recounts her first encounter with Qureshi, saying, “Huma is a very chatty person, and I am a very reserved person.” So the first time we met, I was like, ‘ye itni kyu chep ho rahi hain’. She was chatting so much!”

Qureshi provides a different perspective: “What I liked best about Sona at that after-party was that she danced just as crazy as I did. And then I kept wondering why we were becoming overly friendly. I believe once she makes you her person, there is no turning back.”
Years later, their connection is cemented when Sinha finds herself at Qureshi’s house thanks to her then-boyfriend and now-husband Zaheer Iqbal. “We ended up chilling for quite some time, and we never stopped. Sinha says, “Our friendship was cemented from that moment on.”
When asked if Iqbal ever feels envious of their relationship, Sinha responds amusingly, “Both of them make me jealous because I met Huma through him. I had to threaten her to be with me at our wedding!”

Their travel memories provide insight into their opposing preferences. Qureshi elaborates: “Sona likes any place with water, while I like to explore new places.” Qureshi recalls a trip to Amsterdam.
“I remember once we had gone for a vacation and I was in charge of booking the AirBnB, and I made some mistake and we were in Amsterdam with our boria-bistar and we are on the road with our bags thinking what to do.” Sinha wraps up the idea: “But we were laughing through it all ki chal na coffee peete hain, breakfast karte hain and then dekhte hai ki kya karna hai.”
‘On Friendship Day, their admiration for each other is obvious. Qureshi compliments Sinha, stating, “She’s a keeper.” If she says she’ll be there for you or do something, she’ll always follow through.
That’s one quality I absolutely admire about her.” She adds, “She’s not flaky like that. Many people will mention something without following up. But with her, what you see is what you get, and I truly love that about her.”
Sinha reciprocates, adding she admires Qureshi’s “people management skills.” She continues, “I don’t think I’ve fully mastered it yet, but it’s a skill I’d like to have.” Huma gets along with everyone and understands how to handle and manage people. She will always be there for you.
I don’t hesitate to call her for guidance, or simply to inform her that I need to be present.”She’s just there.”
When asked about a film on friendship, Qureshi smiles and says, “If a Sholay is ever reimagined with a female cast in lead…”
