Farah shared two images with her mother on her birthday, July 12, along with a long statement praising her fortitude. She stated that she took her mother ‘for granted’ and wished to see her strong again so that they could’start fighting’. She captioned her photo, “We all take our mothers for granted… especially me!”

Farah shared how the family had a difficult few weeks, saying, “This last month has been a revelation on how much I adore my mother Menka.. she’s been the strongest, bravest person I’ve ever seen.. her sense of humour remains intact even after many surgeries. Happy birthday, mom! Today is a good day to come home. I can’t wait for you to be strong enough to battle with me again. “I love you.”
Farah’s brother, Sajid Khan, also tweeted a photo of himself with Menaka and Farah on the occasion of his mother’s birthday. He wrote: “Happy Birthday, Mummy…”
Farah’s mother was opposed to her marriage. Menaka Irani is the sister of actress Daisy Irani and screenwriter Honey Irani. Zoya and Farhan Akhtar, filmmakers, are her nieces and nephews. Menaka raised Farah and Sajid alone when their father died.
Farah revealed in an old interview that her mother had threatened to toss her out of the house if she married at the age of 22. Speaking to Nova IVF Fertility’s YouTube channel earlier this year, Farah stated that she was always a ‘work-oriented person’ and that marriage and parenthood were not in her plans for her 20s. However, she claimed that the thought of marriage crossed her mind when she was 22 years old and her family recommended her against it.
She explained, “Marriage was not on my mind at all. I believe I imagined I’d get married when I was 22 or so, but I come from an unusual family. They gathered together and declared, “We will kick you out of the house if you marry this young and have done nothing in life.” So they did the polar opposite of what most parents would do… My mother threatened to toss you out of the house. You have to do something with your life. You must be financially independent before you marry.”
