ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Friday the six victors of the Senate by-elections held on March 14.
According to the notice, Yousuf Raza Gilani of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been elected senator for a general seat in Islamabad.
In addition, PPP candidates Jam Saifullah Dharejo and Muhammad Aslam Abro have been declared winners of Sindh’s two vacant Senate seats.
According to the notification, Balochistan senators are Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo of the PPP, Abdul Shakoor Khan Ghaibai of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), and Mir Dostain Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
On March 14, the PPP won four of six Senate seats in by-elections.
In the National Assembly, PPP candidate Yousaf Raza Gilani won with 204 votes, while Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Chaudhary Ilyas Mehrban finished second with 88 votes.
In the Sindh Assembly, PPP candidates Jam Saifullah Dharejo and Aslam Abro won with 58 and 57 votes, respectively. SIC’s Nazirullah and Shazia Sohail each received four votes. The polling involved 124 MPAs, including 116 from the PPP and eight from the SIC.
Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo of the PPP won the Balochistan Senate election with 23 votes. In addition, JUI-F’s Abdul Shakoor Khan Ghaibai and PML-N’s Mir Dostain were declared winners for the remaining Senate seats.
