Crowdstrike AcceptsMost Epic Fail' Award Following Global IT Catastrophe
CrowdStrike’s President, Michael Sentonas, took the stage at the Pwnie Awards during Def Con to accept the dubious title of ‘Most Epic Fail,’ just weeks after the company’s software upgrade caused a global IT disaster.
The prize was presented in a lighthearted yet pointed manner, with Sentonas openly admitting the company’s error.
During the ceremony, which followed the Black Hat conference, where CrowdStrike was heavily represented, Sentonas admitted that this was “definitely not the award to be proud of receiving.”
However, he emphasized the significance of admitting mistakes as part of the company’s commitment to protecting its customers.
Despite the severity of the IT issue, footage of the address was published online, revealing an audience that appeared to be both supportive and understanding.
Sentonas promised to return the award to CrowdStrike’s headquarters as a lesson that such failures could not be repeated.
The Pwnie Awards, known for their lighthearted appreciation of cybersecurity failures, culminated with Sentonas receiving a big trophy, emphasizing the gravity of the company’s recent troubles.
