ISLAMABAD –On Saturday, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja found himself in a difficult situation after a joint complaint was filed against him with the Supreme Judicial Council.
According to details, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh, retired Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi, and Shabbir Ahmad filed a complaint against the chief election commissioner on the grounds of failing to fulfill his constitutional duties, stealing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) mandate, and failing to comply with court rulings.
The application states that the CEC appointed the returning officers and deputy returning officers on a whim.
The application also highlighted former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Chattha’s conference, in which he accused the CEC of monitoring cheating in the Rawalpindi district by providing 70,000 PTI votes to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidates.
The complaint also claimed that the CEC took away the PTI’s trademark bat symbol, and that its actions impacted more than 120 million voters.
It concluded with a demand for ‘immediate resignation’ of CEC and ECP members.
