LAHORE –Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that police must curb crime because she is responsible for 1.3 billion people in Punjab.
The Punjab Chief Minister chaired a special session to evaluate the province’s law and order situation.
During the workshop, Punjab Inspector General Usman Anwer briefed participants on the situation of law and order in Punjab, as well as police performance.
CM Nawaz issued directions to the police force, emphasizing their role in crime prevention as she was accountable to Punjab’s 1.3 billion people.
Remove no-go areas in Punjab.
She emphasized the need of eliminating no-go zones and lowering crime rates under any conditions.
She emphasized the public’s prioritizing of security over reforms and growth during periods of increased crime, as well as the public’s failure to recognize progress.
Recognizing the sacrifices made by the police, CM Nawaz stated that the government has provided all essential resources to police and expected increased performance in combating crime.
She stated plans to put in place a system to evaluate police performance in order to successfully tackle corruption. She highlighted the construction of 14 specific checkpoints to prevent inter-provincial smuggling.
No load shedding if there is no power theft.
CM Nawaz also addressed the issue of electricity theft, claiming that if it was controlled, there would be no loadshedding. She emphasized the importance of following D.G Khan as a role model for eradicating electricity theft.
She praised the 50% reduction in theft in Lahore and established timelines for controlling robbery instances in Sheikhupura.
She directed continuing fast action against drug trafficking and aerial fire, emphasizing the eradication of political influence in police matters.
CM Nawaz underlined the role of District Police Officers (DPOs) in removing corrupt and criminal elements from respective districts.
Finally, during the conference, it was decided to build beggar barracks in Punjab’s jails.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyyum Aurangzeb, Senator Pervez Rasheed, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, IG Punjab, assistant inspector general special branch, DIG operations, CCPO, and others attended the session.
All Regional Police Officers (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs), and District Police Officers (DPOs) took part in the session via video link.
