Honor, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, became one of the first to announce plans to incorporate Google’s artificial intelligence technologies into future smartphones on Wednesday.
Honor will incorporate generative AI experiences into its upcoming hardware, which will be powered by Google Cloud, the firm announced.
A spokeswoman for the Chinese company told CNBC that this will feature Google’s AI helper Gemini as well as Imagen 2, a text-to-image generation tool.
Smartphone manufacturers are seeking to include AI functions into their phones in an effort to get users to upgrade to their latest flagship smartphones.
Honor’s integration with Google’s AI features leverages on the fact that the company’s smartphones currently run the Android operating system. Individual smartphone makers may struggle to design advanced generative AI features, thus collaborating with Google provides them with access to the most recent generative AI apps that use the technology.
Honor is one of only a few companies to commit to Google’s AI technologies. In January, Samsung announced a collaboration with Google Cloud to deliver the Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 to its devices.
Honor has been promoting AI features in its products this year. In February, the business released the Magic 6 Pro, which includes a feature powered by the company’s own AI that allows users to activate an app simply by looking at their phone. A user can stare while a notification appears at the top of the screen, causing the eye-tracking technology to launch the appropriate app.
