An X executive stated on Saturday that the social media business X is now hiring 100 content moderators for a new office in Austin, Texas, which will be dedicated to combating child abuse content. The company hopes to have this office operational by the end of the year.
The new “Trust and Safety center of excellence” was unveiled by the Elon Musk-owned business in advance of a Senate hearing on internet child sex abuse on January 31.
Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, as well as the CEOs of Meta Platforms, Snap, TikTok, and Discord, are all expected to speak.
The Austin office’s head of business operations, Joe Benarroch, stated, “The team is currently being built.” He added that filling the roles by the end of the year is contingent upon finding the right candidates.
Following Musk’s 2022 acquisition of the former Twitter, the entrepreneur has been under fire for both his own divisive posts and his attempts to change the platform’s content moderation guidelines.
In a blog post published on Friday, X said that the number of accounts it terminated last year for breaking its policies against child sexual exploitation had increased to 12.4 million from 2.3 million in 2022.
According to X, the corporation will be able to combat various hazardous content kinds with the use of the new Austin center.
