The highly anticipated action role-playing game “Avowed” is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2024. The game, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios, is set in the same universe as “Pillars of Eternity,” but on the realm of Eora.
“Avowed” features a combination of first- and third-person views. Players can confront opponents with magic, melee weapons, and firearms. The game offers a variety of spells that allow you to freeze or entangle adversaries. Players can build combos, such as crushing a frozen adversary with a sword. Quick-switch setups can include dual pistols, dual wands, a two-handed axe, or a sword and shield combination.
The game includes multiple skill trees for acquiring powerful powers and upgrading weaponry. While not a complete open-world game, “Avowed” does feature big open areas for exploration.
Set on the mysterious island of Living Lands, players, as Aedyr envoys, must investigate a rising illness that threatens to wipe out all. Obsidian Entertainment mixes its knowledge from titles such as “Fallout: New Vegas” and “The Outer Worlds” with the fantasy setting of “Pillars of Eternity,” pulling influence from a later period in human history and including early guns alongside traditional magic and melee combat.
“Avowed” promises an immersive experience akin to “The Elder Scrolls,” with its distinct blend of magic, weaponry, and non-traditional fantasy aspects. Despite the excitement, Obsidian Entertainment has yet to reveal a specific release date.
