A Boy Visiting A Museum Unintentionally Breaks A 3,500-Year-Old Jar.

While visiting an Israeli museum, a four-year-old kid unintentionally broke open a 3,500-year-old jar.

The tableware was a remarkable artifact since it was so undamaged, according to the Hecht Museum in Haifa, which informed the BBC that it belonged to the Bronze Age, which spanned from 2200 to 1500 BC.

Since the museum feels that displaying archeological artifacts “without obstructions” has a “special charm,” it had been on display close to the entrance without glass.

The boy’s father, Alex, claimed that his son set the jar tumbling because he “pulled the jar slightly” and was “curious about what was inside.”.

In addition, Alex claimed that when he saw his son next to the broken jar, he was “in shock” and initially believed that “it wasn’t my child that did it.”.

But Alex told the BBC that he spoke to the security guard after soothing the kid down.

Following the incident that occurred a few days ago, the Hecht Museum said that the youngster has been asked to return to the exhibition with his family for a scheduled visit.

Lihi Laszlo from the museum told the BBC that “there are instances where display items are intentionally damaged, and such cases are treated with great severity, including involving the police.”

But this was not the case in this instance. A small child visiting the museum unintentionally damaged the jar, and the appropriate response will be made.”

The jar will also be restored by a conservation professional and placed back where it belongs “in a short time.”.

According to Alex, the boy’s father, they are “sorry” that “it will no longer be the same item,” but they are “relieved” to see the jar restored.

“Wherever possible, items are displayed without barriers or glass walls,” the museum told the BBC.

Additionally, the museum stated that it plans to carry on this tradition “despite the rare incident.”.

  • The oldest masks in the world are on show in Jerusalem.

Most likely, the jar’s initial purpose was to hold regional goods like olive oil and wine.
It is typical of the Canaan region on the eastern Mediterranean coast and dates back before the reigns of Biblical Kings David and Solomon.

Similar pieces of pottery are typically damaged or partial when uncovered during archaeological investigations, therefore the museum called the discovery of this whole jar “an impressive find”.

Situated in the northern Israeli city of Haifa, the Hecht Museum is dedicated to the collection of art and archeological artifacts.
