After a film claiming to show popular musician Rahat Fateh Ali Khan punching a band member was released, the British Asian Trust—a organization dedicated to preventing violence—decided to break its association with the singer.
The Trust was praised for its resolute position against abusive behavior and swiftly condemned any acts of violence after watching the upsetting footage.
After carefully reviewing the video, a British Asian Trust representative explained why the organization decided to break its association with the artist.
“The British Asian Trust has a strict policy towards abusive behaviour and has ceased any association with Mr. Khan,” a spokeswoman for the Trust stated. We vehemently oppose all forms of violence, regardless of the situation.
In the incident that occurred in Houston, Texas, last year, Khan was observed violently assaulting a band member. He used his shoes, his kicks, and his slaps.
In response to the controversy, the well-known musician addressed the situation, saying that the real events differed from what was depicted in the film. He clarified that the situation included an internal battle with a pupil named Naveed Husnain and that the “bottle” mentioned in the movie was water that he had received from a spiritual leader but had misplaced.
Husnain, who was revealed to be Khan’s student, defended the singer, claiming that Rahat had expressed regret to him and that there was an internal problem with the video.
He emphasized the affection of his teacher and said that Khan was being blackmailed by unknown individuals who wanted to ruin him.
Prince Charles established the British Asian Trust in 2007 with the intention of eradicating poverty and promoting strong community relations. Since Khan was appointed ambassador by PrinceCharles in 2017, the well-known musician has actively participated in initiatives that support South Asian communities.
