London – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Pope Francis in the Vatican City.
During his foreign tour, Naqvi visited the Vatican City, where he was greeted warmly. He called on Pope Francis, and the bilateral talks focused on the importance of interfaith harmony.
Pope Francis praised the Pakistani government’s efforts to renovate churches following the infamous Jaranwala case.
In his message, the Pope expressed his desire for peace and amity in Pakistan. He stated that he would try to visit Pakistan after the prime minister extended him an invitation.
He expressed his distress over the Palestinian unrest and stated that he sought daily updates from aid workers on the situation. He said that only dialogue and interfaith harmony could help solve the world’s problems.
Interior Minister Naqvi praised Pope Francis’ stance on Palestine and informed him of the Pakistani government’s efforts to eradicate terrorism. “It is our foremost duty to provide protection to the minorities in Pakistan,” he stated.
“Our religion and Prophet (Peace be upon him) exhorted to protect minorities,” he said. He added that the constitution promised minorities freedom.
The Pope praised Pakistan for its efforts to promote harmony and provide decent living conditions for minorities.
