SC to resume NAB amendment case hearing today

ISLAMABAD -A five-member bench of Pakistan’s Supreme Court will continue hearings on the National Accountability (NAB) Ordinance 1999 amendment issue today (Thursday).

The five-member bench is led by Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, and includes Justices Aminuddin Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Athar Minallah, and Hasan Azhar Rizvi.

Imran Khan, the jailed founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has filed a motion with the Supreme Court for personal attendance in the NAB Ordinance 1999 modification case.

The former prime minister had asked Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa for an opportunity to make a personal appearance. Khan signed the letter and sent it to the Adiala Jail management to submit to the Supreme Court.

During the last hearing on May 17, the court issued instructions directing that the PTI founder be presented via video link at the next hearing on May 30.

The PTI founder was not given the opportunity to forward his points during the proceedings on May 17.

The PTI founder has previously contested the PDM government’s changes to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999. Then, a bench led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial ordered the reinstatement of all graft cases worth less than Rs500 million that had been closed against political leaders from the ruling coalition parties and public office holders.

The government appealed Justice Bandial’s verdict, and the PTI founder sought to offer his reasons in the case.
