On UN Peacekeepers Day, PM lauds Blue Helmets’ contributions to peace

ISLAMABAD – On Wednesday, the international community marked the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid gratitude to their contributions, stating that UN missions were important in keeping peace and protecting civilians in crisis zones.

According to the United Nations, almost two million uniformed and civilian troops have assisted countries in transitioning from war to peace since 1948. More than 70,000 peacekeepers are now serving in 11 missions throughout the world.

The day not only commemorates the service and sacrifice of peacekeepers, but it also remembers the more than 4,000 peacekeepers who have died while serving for peace.

Prime Minister Shehbaz offered special gratitude to Pakistani peacekeepers who made major contributions.

“230,000 military soldiers, including our brave Pakistani female peacekeepers, have made the nation proud over our 64-year commitment to UN peacekeeping. Among these were 181 martyrs who gave their lives for global peace; we also honor them.

“Their selfless act of courage and sacrifice will forever be etched in our hearts,” he said on his X timeline.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to pursuing peace and justice and creating a future “where peace prevails and humanity thrives.”
