ISLAMABAD – Pakistan strongly denounced Israel’s assault and targeting of a UNRWA refugee camp in Rafah, Gaza Strip, which resulted in many casualties on Monday.
The targeting of Palestinians who were previously displaced as a result of Israeli bombardment and were sheltering in a refugee camp is yet another violation of international humanitarian law by Israeli occupation forces, according to the foreign office.
The attack is also a clear violation of the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) additional provisional measures dated May 24, 2024, ordering Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah in accordance with its obligations under the Genocide Convention and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions faced by civilians.
Israeli occupation forces have once again proved their disregard for international law and the fundamental principles of decency and appropriate international behavior.
Pakistan reiterates its demand for the immediate and unconditional implementation of the ICJ’s rulings dated May 24, 2024.
Measures must be done to completely safeguard civilians in Gaza, and Israel’s occupying troops must be held accountable for the slaughter.
“We call on the UN Security Council to play its role in preventing Israel from launching any further attacks against civilians in Rafah and to take effective measures to protect Gazans,” the foreign office stated.
