LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has urged the civil administration to take fast action to protect citizens’ safety in the aftermath of torrential rains.
The chief minister urged the commissioners, deputy commissioners, and WASA managing director to remain vigilant as severe rains are expected throughout the province till April 29.
“All the resources must be utilised to ensure the timely drainage of rainwater and officials should remain in the field,” a statement from the chief minister read.
Furthermore, the chief minister recommended that measures be taken to maintain a smooth flow of traffic in Lahore and other cities during the rain. Traffic wardens must carry out their duties on the highways efficiently, she stressed.
Meanwhile, the chief minister urged rescue authorities to transport individuals to safer locations if necessary during heavy rains.

She stated that necessary measures must be made to safeguard the safety of cattle in waterlogged areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has expected rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms in numerous regions of Punjab for the next 48 hours (Sunday and Monday).

During this season, windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may endanger human life, standing crops, and infrastructure such as electrical poles, automobiles, and solar panels.
