NDMA issues advisory for flash flood preparedness amid ongoing rainfall

(Web Desk) – On Friday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an advice encouraging relevant ministries to increase their preparedness for flash floods and emergency response in the midst of continuing rainfall.

According to a press release, the NDMA’s NEOC (National Emergencies Operation Center) predicts more rain till April 22, with potential floods in sections of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

The rainfall could cause flash floods in local nullahs throughout the region, including Khuzdar, Ziarat, Zhob, Sherani, Muslim Bagh, Quetta, Pishin, Kech, Panjgur, Gwadar, and Turbat. Flooding can sometimes occur in low-lying places, especially in southwestern Balochistan.

A second weather system from April 23-24 is likely to offer warmer temperatures, while a stronger system from April 25-29 may bring severe rains and hailstorms to various portions of Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab provinces.

The NDMA urges local governments to prepare for emergency response. Citizens living in risky locations should follow safety measures, such as avoiding electric poles and poor infrastructure and not driving or walking in waterways.

Farmers, cattle owners, visitors, and travelers should use caution during this time, verifying the weather and road conditions before leaving and taking the necessary precautions to protect crops, livestock, and personal safety.
