On Thursday, US Attorney General Merrick Garland and other Justice Department officials briefed reporters on their intention to pursue an antitrust action against Apple.
The Justice Department and 16 attorneys general filed the highly anticipated lawsuit on Thursday, charging that Apple’s iPhone ecosystem constitutes a monopoly and that its anti-competitive activities extend to the company’s Apple Watch, advertising, browser, FaceTime, and news services.

Garland was joined at the press conference on Thursday by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, Acting Associate Attorney General Benjamin Mizer, Antitrust Division Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter, and New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin.
The action marks the Justice Department’s third against Apple. It previously sued the internet behemoth over e-book prices and an alleged conspiracy scheme to lower wages.
