Aamir Khan turns 59 and says he would continue to back stories like ‘Laapataa Ladies’.
Aamir Khan, who turned 59 on Thursday, said he will continue to support “beautiful” films like as his most recent production, “Laapataa Ladies“.
“Laapataa Ladies” is a comedy drama directed by Kiran Rao that opened to critical praise on March 1 and made over ₹8 crore at the box office.
At his birthday meet-and-greet, Khan thanked the crowd for their support for the film, which is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Rao’s Kindling Productions.
“I’d want to thank everyone who has supported this film. In the future, we aim to continue making such films and to have your support.
“The affection that we’ve received from the audience for this film is gratifying. “On this special day, I’d like to thank the audience and media,” Khan told reporters here.
Set in a hypothetical state called Nirmal Pradesh, “Laapataa Ladies” tells the story of two brides, Phool and Pushpa, who are accidentally swapped on a train.
Rao, as well as the film’s key cast members Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava, attended the ceremony.
Khan also praised his ex-wife, Rao, for making a “wonderful” film.
“This year, I’d like to celebrate my birthday with Kiran ji and the ‘Laapataa Ladies’. It is a beautiful film. Our production studio has been making movies for 22 to 24 years, beginning with ‘Lagaan’, and we are very proud of ‘Laapataa Ladies’.
“It’s such a fundamental film on human nature, emotions, and family, and there are so many wonderful aspects that we discuss in the film… It’s my birthday today, and the picture is still playing in theaters. If you all want to give me a birthday present, go buy a movie ticket. “That will be my greatest gift,” he said.
Rao claimed she was “overwhelmed” by the reception to the film.
“The audience sent some amazing messages. I am grateful that the picture worked with the people. I’m just hoping that everybody who hasn’t seen the film sees it while it’s still in theaters, and that it gets to where we want it to go, to all homes, to all young girls, and women… simply that the message spreads,” the filmmaker stated.
On the acting front, Khan will next appear in “Sitaare Zameen Par“.
The actor stated that he will shoot the film today and then spend time with his family.
Khan made his acting debut as a child in the 1973 film “Yaadon Ki Baaraat” directed by his uncle Nasir Hussain. His debut feature film was “Holi,” but he rose to stardom with the lead part in the 1988 romance drama “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.”
His film credits include “Sarfarosh”, “Rangeela”, “3 Idiots”, “Rang De Basanti”, and “Dangal”.
